Kate Winslet thinks Robert Downey Jr. has to work on his British accent
Along with portraying Sherlock Holmes and Charlie Chaplin, he once acted opposite Winslet in an audition for "The Holiday," and she questioned him about the reason for his accent.
In a recent episode of SiriusXM's "The Howard Stern Show," Downey Jr. recalls reading for Jimmy Fallon and Nancy Meyers' holiday comedy from 2006.
"It's about to happen for us," Downey said. "We both got called in merely as seat fillers, [Meyers] needed someone to read with the women. "At that point, I thought, 'I've got to have a better English accent than Jude Law.'" The worst British accent I've ever heard, Winslet exclaimed.
In response, according to Downey, he stated, "I'll check out now, but I'm taking the gummy bears from the minibar."
Jude Law won the part, while Jack Black tried his hand at hosting the show as Fallon.
In the same Stern interview, Fallon reflected, "I thought, honestly, I said, 'If Jack Black says no to this movie, I'm so in.'" "I'll complete it for half his fee."
I'm sitting across from Robert Downey Jr. and I go, "This is the best actor I've ever sat across and did a scene with in my entire life," Fallon said in another laudatory statement about Downey Jr.
"I found that to be mind-blowing, and I kind of left the company. I never returned. I didn't try out for a position again after that," he admitted.
